Description

Since 1988, the UK government has provided ex-gratia support for people affected by Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and/or hepatitis C through treatment with National Health Service (NHS)-supplied blood or blood products.
The current Scheme Administrator role is to: manage and operate a scheme of financial assistance to eligible individuals infected with HIV and/or hepatitis C via NHS-supplied blood or blood products, and their eligible intimates, in line with policies and criteria set by the Department of Health in England. We expect that the new scheme administrator will fulfil the same role in England, this may include operation of the same scheme in Wales and Northern Ireland, subject to the decisions of Ministers in those administrations.
A recent consultation exercise provides further insight and you may find it beneficial to read the response to this, "Infected blood: Government Response to Consultation on Reform of Financial and Other Support". The document can be found by following the link here: https://www.gov.uk/government/consultations/infected-blood-reform-of-financial-and-other-support
