Overview
1.1 The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) was set up in 1994 under the National Lottery Act and distributes money raised by the National Lottery to support projects involving the national, regional and local heritage of the United Kingdom. We operate under the auspices of the National Heritage Memorial Fund (NHMF). Since April 2013 we have been operating under our current Strategic Framework: 'A lasting difference for heritage and people'. See the HLF website for more details.
1.2 HLF invests in the full breadth of the UK's heritage and, through our funding, we aim to make a lasting difference for heritage and people. This is reflected in the outcomes for heritage, people and communities which underpin our grant-making.
1.3 The Year of Young People National Lottery Fund has been launched in Scotland to mark the 2018 Year of Young People in Scotland - a year that aims to inspire Scotland through our young people: celebrating their achievements; valuing their contribution to communities; and creating new opportunities for young people to shine locally, nationally and globally.
1.4 The Heritage Lottery Fund, Big Lottery Fund and Sport Scotland, along with Spirit of 2012 Trust have created the Year of Young People National Lottery Fund to award grants for heritage, community and sports projects, that will support young people in Scotland to improve their health and wellbeing.
1.5 The focus on health and wellbeing covers many different aspects from supporting young people to lead active lives to providing opportunities to learn about and improve mental and physical health.
1.6 The Year of Young People National Lottery Fund intends to support projects that:
 Encourage positive mental health for young people
 Inspire young people to lead active lives
 Ensure young people are involved in developing, delivering and evaluating these projects to meet their needs, informed by the Year of Young People Codesign Blueprint
 Celebrate and share young people's achievements
1.7 Funded projects are expected to deliver the following outcomes:
 Young people will have been integral to the design, delivery and evaluation of heritage, sport or community activities and
 Young people will learn about and improve their mental health and become more resilient and/or
 Young people will lead healthier more active lives
1.8 The Year of Young People National Lottery Fund was launched in March 2018. The programme is offering grants of between £3,000 and £10,000 for projects focusing on young people aged between 8 and 26, and there are two deadlines for application - 30 April and 18 June 2018. Decisions will be made in June 2018 and August 2018 respectively. The first batch of grantees is expected to start their projects by July 2018 and the second batch by August 2018. With a total budget of £550,000 the programme is estimated to fund between 40-70 projects.
