Tenderers are welcome to propose alternatives to the following specification based on their own expertise and experience but must describe any variation from it.

Specification

Design Load: The bridge and boardwalk shall be designed for a live pedestrian load not less than 4kn/m2.

Material: The bridge and boardwalk shall be fabricated from recycled plastic components. The colour shall be uniform black or dark grey.
Metal fixings shall be galvanised or stainless steel.

Bridge Access: On the west side, access to the bridge shall be via a short ramp from road level approx. 1.8 m wide with slope not exceeding 1 in 12 surfaced with bound gravel.

The west side foundation shall be higher than the east by 0.5m providing a 1:12 fall across the bridge. Boardwalk Foundations shall be recycled plastic posts suitably bedded into the ground. Bridge & Boardwalk shall be 1.2m wide. There shall be a 4.5m long x 1.2m wide passing platform at midpoint of the boardwalk. There shall be 1.2m wide ramps from boardwalk to ground with slope not exceeding 1 in 12 on either side at 7.5m from the east bridge abutment.

The bridge and first section of the boardwalk only - i.e. 7.5m to the ramps - shall have double handrail.

Kickboards should not be provided but bridge and boardwalk shall have wheelchair edge guides on both sides.

Layout of the bridge and boardwalk is indicated on the attached 2 sketches but subject to final agreement.
