The property is currently leased by the Hungerford Town Council and is used as a multi-use community building with activities ranging from Duke of Edinburgh, to party and wedding functions.
The new covered area will be approximately 30sqm in size and will provide the building with an important additional feature. The addition of a covered external space means the building will be more versatile in mixed weather conditions, as well as providing potential space for activities such as outdoor learning for children's classes. It is considered that the proposal will have a positive impact on the building and will make the hiring out of it a more attractive proposition. This will in turn help boost the income of an important community asset.
The material palette for the alterations will match the existing building to an extent. White painted block work is present within the existing façade of the building and this will be replicated for the main structure. Using this option will also help to keep the proposals within the tight budget available to the Town Council. The addition of exposed timber roof structure will help soften the appearance of the structure and help ensure it is aesthetically pleasing.
