Description
London Borough of Lambeth is seeking an individual or collective of artists/muralists to design and realise three murals in Mepham Street.
These murals will be used to:
- improve wayfinding in the area
- beautify the space
- enhance and complement the surrounding style of the area
London Borough of Lambeth committed to a Transport Strategy in 2019 which aims to make easier for people to navigate the streets walking and wheeling. Waterloo station main exit, from Victory Arch, has been identified as a location where wayfinding needs improvement.
Here, there is no clear signage to direct people to their next destination - such as the South Bank or Tenison Way nor there is a clear signage to direct people from the Bus Station and Tension Way to Waterloo Station. The viaduct arch opposite of the main exit of Waterloo Station, provide an unused canvas to create wayfinding opportunities and incorporate art, improving the public realm. Similarly, the bridge plinth at the junction between Mepham Street and A301 sits in an excellent location to host wayfinding information for people travelling through the area.
The detailed brief for this Opportunity can be found on the documents attached to this Request for Quotations.
The competition is open to artists and designers with a track record of delivering artwork of comparable scale in the public realm. Evidence of this will need to be provided as part of the submission.
Submissions must confirm will the assumptions and parameters set out in this brief, as determined by the Council and its partners.
No member, employee or associate of the judging panel is eligible to enter.
All interested parties will need to submit a design proposal for each location and portfolio of previous similar works delivered.
Clarifications on the brief can be sought up until Wednesday 7th December 2022. The Opportunity will close by 12 Noon Friday 9 December 2022.
