Description
Nature Recovery is at the centre of the Government's Environmental Improvement Plan but the contribution of geodiversity to nature recovery is not yet fully valued or recognised and the opportunities that geodiversity offers have not been adequately explored. Alongside this, the opportunities to conserve and recover geodiversity as part of wider nature recovery activities have not been been fully realised.
This project builds on the success of the Purple Horizons project, one of the first nature recovery pilot projects, that was based in the Black Country and, through partnership working, clearly demonstrated the value to biodiversity and to geodiversity of taking an integrated approach to nature recovery.
We are seeking an individual/team who are experienced and knowledgeable about geodiversity and geoconservation and also have experience in exploring the relationship between biodiversity and geodiversity to produce a portfolio of four case studies, based around the Black Country. These should illustrate the benefits and value of integrating geodiversity into nature recovery and each case study should be focused on a different geo-site/group of sites and major on a different nature recovery theme. The expectation is that a detailed report should be produced for each case study that also includes maps and photos.
