Description

The full-scale invasion has led to the disappearance of nearly 55,000 individuals, including prisoners of war, civilians who have been forcibly displaced, arrested, detained, abducted, or interned, as well as children-particularly unaccompanied minors and those born in captivity. The families of the missing persons often feel abandoned, especially due to the lack of state support and clear information. This undermines trust in state institutions and causes social division as families lose faith in the government's ability to protect its citizens and ensure justice.

To help address these challenges, PFRU2 supports the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, as well as other state and civil society organizations actively working to resolve the missing persons issue. This collaboration aims to mitigate risks, improve coordination between government agencies, and strengthen the Ukrainian government's capacity to respond effectively to the needs of missing persons and their families.

Project objective: The project aims to support the Commissioner for Missing Persons under Special Circumstances, who works directly with the families of the missing persons, and to enhance the Ukrainian government's capacity to respond effectively to their needs. This will help restore public trust in state institutions and prevent social divisions that may arise from uncertainty surrounding the issue of missing persons.
