The East Riding of Yorkshire Council run a Fleet of approximately
650 vehicles of various types. It is extremely important that we have a functioning Telematics
system in place to aid driver and vehicle compliance. The Telematics system lets us see where a
vehicle is, who is driving and whether any offences are being committed such as speeding. The
Telematics system also has an historic function so we can tell where a vehicle was and who was
driving on any day which aids with accident reporting and resolving complaints from the public. We
do have a new Telematics contract ready to implement on 01/05/2020 but due to the current Covid-
19 pandemic and the current government guidelines around social distancing, essential work and
journeys the fitting of the new devices would seem to be non essential. We do have this option to
continue with our current supplier on a temporary basis no Telematic units would need to be
changed on the vehicles so there would be no external contractor visits, extra work, physical
contact or journeys taking place and we would still have a fully functioning Telematics system. We
can then start working with our new provider in six months with no new tender having to take
place.
