Description

Technical advice to the Safety Risk Requirements Team, within SES.
The Safety Risk Requirements Team is looking to set up a contract for provision of technical advice investigating further work surrounding the analysis of hazards H135 and H140 within the GD 301 all lane running (ALR) hazard log, to identify when or whether at all a slow-moving vehicle becomes as high risk as a stopped vehicle and that the risk controls available are stringently analysed to assure that this risk profile is mitigated So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP).

Results from the last project have provided answers in regard to how to best update the hazard scoring and has also identified the speed in which to identify a slow-moving vehicle. A new data set, the potential use of Navtech has been presented by Operations to provide tracking data of slow-moving vehicles or vehicles coming to a stop. There are also opportunities for further development of the Generic SRN Hazard Log, which can be categorised into four improvement areas.
- Tool Improvements, involving functional changes to the Excel spreadsheet or hazard assessment and scoring processes.
- Extended Capability, adding new hazards, features, or applications to assess additional road types or support the current SRN.
- Future Proofing, incorporating features or hazards to address anticipated changes to the SRN in the near and medium-term.
- Supporting Deployment, encompassing activities to enhance the usability and application of the Hazard Log without altering its structure directly.
