Description

STFC - Daresbury Laboratory is currently constructing the CLARA electron particle accelerator, as part of the development programme for a future UK FEL (Free electron laser).

This specification is concerned with the supply only of a multi-channel fibre optic distributed temperature measurement system, which is required to provide very accurate temperature monitoring within the CLARA accelerator enclosure. Once installed by our technical staff, the system must be able to sense the temperature at one meter intervals along the length of commercially available fibre optic cables (separately procured and installed by us), ideally, using the principles of Raman back scattering. Although this system, including the fibres, will be installed by us we would expect access to technical support during the installation/commissioning phase.

This system will provide diagnostic information to the machine operators and will provide feedback to the air conditioning system which is controlling the area temperature to 23°C +/- 0.1°C.

The equipment specification and the following requirements should be considered to be the minimum acceptable standards.

The delivered system must use a fibre optic cable as the sensor to satisfy the following parameters:
Supply voltage 220~240 V
Temperature resolution 0.01 to 0.03°C
Measurement distance (fibre optic cable length for each channel) 10 km per channel (Minimum)
Sampling interval along the length of the fibre 1m (Maximum)
Measurement range -200°C to +200°C
Number of sensor channels (number of fibre optic cables that can be used) 16 (Minimum)
Interface RS232 (Modbus), Ethernet (Modbus)
Must integrate to EPICS (Scientific SCADA package) to allow the control of sensor start point with analysis of temperature and fibre attenuation.
Sensor Non-specialist, commercially available, optical fibre
Laser safety Class 1M (Maximum)
Visualisation software All software must be supplied that is required to set up, control and visualise data on a PC via Ethernet.
Ability to produce graphs and analyse data from anywhere on the network.

Pricing

Supply of the system (GBP) inclusive of all necessary accessories to meet our requirements; including Carriage and some limited access to technical support during the installation/commissioning process. The system must be delivered by mid-March 2017.

Build Standards

You are to confirm the equipment build standards conform to with the essential requirements of the relevant European health, safety and environmental protection legislation and must be CE marked.
