Description

The main objectives of this work are:
a) to assess the effectiveness of existing regulations on drivers' hours and working time in mitigating the road safety risk of fatigue related incidents for commercial freight vehicle drivers, and
b) to explore the impacts of relaxations to aspects of the drivers' hours rules on both drivers and haulage operators.
Further, the work should consider the appropriateness of the rules for drivers whereby driving does not constitute their main work duties, with a particular focus on volumetric concrete mixers and abnormal indivisible loads.
It should be noted that the scope of this work is limited to goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes; passenger service vehicles are excluded.
