Description

Highways England is looking to set up a contract for the provision of services to investigate an improvement to the customer experience by detailed assessment of the appropriateness of the 40mph speed limit set by the Queue Protection Algorithm.
Customer feedback and the advancements in Assisted Braking Technology within vehicles has led some to believe that the lower 40mph speed limits', activated by MIDAS on our controlled and smart motorways, could be reviewed.
The work envisaged will determine if the value of the 40mph limit is any longer relevant to the safety case. If it is proven to be ineffective, could more appropriate speeds be implemented?
