Description

3118/531.JN.NAMRC.21 Picosecond Laser and Scanning Head

The University of Sheffield wishes to invite tenders for a Picosecond Laser & Scanning Head on behalf of the Nuclear Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (NAMRC).

Scope of Requirement
The Nuclear AMRC are looking to purchase a picosecond laser, scanning head, fibre optic cable and controller for use in the manufacturing process of large metallic components. The picosecond laser will initially be used for the removal of oxide layers and surface contaminants such as oil and cutting fluid, with a view to later purchasing suitable optics to use for laser for machining and surface texturing. The supplied solution should be functional as a standalone system when the head is appropriately mounted. However, the medium-term objective is for the picosecond laser and scanning head system to be subsequently integrated into the existing diode laser cell (DLC) at the Nuclear AMRC, and as such there are certain compatibility requirements that are set out in the following technical specification. It is anticipated that there may be some involvement by the successful bidder in the subsequent integration, but the level of involvement is dependent upon the specifics of the control system.
