Description

Lancaster University wishes to purchase an X-ray Fluorescence Spectrometer system (XRF)

Lancaster University Engineering Department has made a number of appointments in recent years in the areas of nuclear engineering and chemical engineering. Appointees are working in the areas of, inter alia, nuclear and fuel cells development. In the case of the former, XRF is required to characterise and map contaminated nuclear and structural reprocessing materials and novel materials for applications within nuclear fuel recycling and waste treatment. In the case of the latter, it is required to characterise catalysts for the development of more efficient chemical fuel cells and to understand metal electrodeposition/electrowinning processes. Both nuclear and chemical engineering are priority areas in the NW Science Strategy, nuclear being of international importance as national decommissioning and new power station build programmes gather momentum. Installation of an XRF resource on site would result in a capability uplift in these key areas as well as allow for greater diversity in both the types of funding bids compiled and sources applied to. It is anticipated that the effective operational life of the machine will be 10 years

This purchase supports the University's objective to maintain its place as a world class research establishment.

Lancaster University MUST have this equipment delivered by 6th July 2015. Please confirm the date you will require a Purchase Order in order to achieve this deadline.
