Description
Procurement of a Crisis Accommodation & Borderline Personality Disorder Guesting Service for NHS Hastings & Rother Clinical Commissioning Group, (the Commissioner). The Commissioner is supported in this project by South East CSU (the CSU) and its procurement partner NHS Commercial Solutions (NHSCS), which is managing this procurement.
Evidence has demonstrated that those people in crisis who have an alternative to hospital admission, often enjoy better out comes than had they been in receipt of an inpatient stay. Crisis accommodation provision plays an important element in the East Sussex approach to improving patient outcomes.
People with borderline personality disorder are currently being admitted to hospital and managed in community mental health services. The relevant National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (2009) clinical guideline (CG78) describes how evidence based specialist services for people with borderline personality disorder can reduce demand for hospital admissions and crisis care.
Requirements of the service are as follows:
- A suitable, non-medical alternative to hospital admission for identified people experiencing a mental health crisis.
- Short stay crisis/respite provision for individuals diagnosed with a personality disorder.
- Emotional and practical support to enable residents to manage and resolve their own periods of crisis including utilising support structures and facilities available in the community.
Nomination and referrals to both the crisis accommodation and guesting elements of the service are solely through the Crisis Response Home Treatment Teams (CRHT), provided by Sussex Partnership Foundation Trust (SPFT) that covers the Hastings & Rother, Eastbourne Hailsham & Seaford and High Weald Lewes & Havens CCG areas.
