Description

This project is for the design and reconstruction of approximately 12m length of retaining wall.
The existing wall has partially collapsed, with the remaining length being in a very unstable condition. The wall retains approximately 2m of land (public highway and private land) above a steep incline, then a quarried face, with a private residence below. The retained material substantially comprises made ground, some of which is waste material. Ground investigation indicates a potential suitable bedrock formation at 2.9m depth. The contract will be to design and construct a new engineered wall, plus the reconstruction of adjacent sections of wall on a "like-for-like" basis with the tie-in detail between the sections to the Contractor's design. Details are shown in Sketch U5835-7063-S2.1.4. The retaining wall remedial works will include the design and implementation of substantial temporary works to protect adjacent buildings during excavation. The contract will also include the design and construction of modifications to the existing highway drainage system in the vicinity of the works.
