Description
As part of the Energy Research Accelerator (ERA) - a large consortium project across the Midlands to foster research and develop new technologies to shape the UK's energy landscape - the University of Nottingham is establishing a multidisciplinary development laboratory including a flagship facility for high-pressure (near ambient pressure) x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (HP-XPS or NAP-XPS).
The facility must be able to perform XPS measurements of samples under UHV conditions and at pressures close to ambient conditions (20 mbar) using an in-situ sample cell into which gases can be flowed during the measurements.
The system must also be capable of cooling the sample within an in-situ cell in order to condense water onto the sample surface.
In addition the system will include facilities for cleaning of samples and depth profiling in UHV and a fast-entry load lock for transferring samples in and out of the analysis chamber.
The system will be installed in the School of Physics & Astronomy, Room A101 on the University Park campus, Nottingham NG7 2RD for up to one year in the first instance and then relocated to a dedicated ERA building on the Jubilee campus in Nottingham NG8 1BB..
The RAD Centre is expected to be ready to receive the re-installation in January 2018 under the same contract.
Full specification of requirements are detailed in Tender Section 3.
