Description

Hertsmere Borough Council is seeking a suitably experienced and qualified contractor to refurbish the existing splash park at King George Recreation Ground, Bushey.
King George Recreation Ground is an award winning destination park which is busy at all times of the day with dog walkers, children and families all enjoying the wide range of facilities and features. These include a café, splash park, large play area, bowling green, table tennis tables, outdoor fitness equipment, a multi-sports court and four recently refurbished tennis courts. A further series of improvements and enhancements to the park are being planned of which this project is the first.
A 'Tropical Island' themed splash park was constructed during the spring of 2017 by Ustigate Waterplay to replace the paddling pool.
The system is designed to recirculate and treat water. It promotes low and zero depth water play through an array of jets mounted in the ground and above ground themed posts. The water falls to the Splashpad deck and returns by ground drains to an underground interceptor chamber where the drain water is pumped to the ground level reservoir tanks. The water is pumped to the re-circulatory plant room containing the filtration and chemical dosing equipment. The features are only operational when children operate the activation bollard.
As part of this project, the area immediately around the splash park was resurfaced in Nomow artificial grass in order to provide a better wearing surface on the perimeter of the "wet area" and to reduce the risk of polluting the water in the system.
Due to issues with reliability of operation of the plant, in particular the chemical dosing system, it has been decided to refurbish the splash park with the aim of providing a safe and reliable operating system and timing the work so that the splash park is ready to reopen by Saturday 3rd May with sufficient time beforehand for commissioning and testing.
