Description
RSSB will be seeking to publish the procurement project T1350 in November 2024. The appointed supplier will be asked to:
1.Review existing knowledge on wheel flats, including literature and international practises where appropriate.
2.Understand of the prevalence and variability of wheel flats observed on freight vehicle across the GB network.
3.Review standards and operational practises across GB freight operators in relation to train preparation, marshalling, and driving practises.
4.Make recommendations for static brake testing.
5.Assess the feasibility of taking a data driven approach to identifying the root causes of wheel flats
This work package will form part of a larger project, with an overall objective to better understand the circumstances and mechanisms that lead to wheel flats, and to provide actionable insight to freight operators and maintainers that can be used to reduce the risk of these developing in the future.
