Description

The Council has set aside a limited budget which can be used to purchase new affordable homes off plan. The Council are looking to invest in small sites by reputable Thurrock based developers and builders ('Developers') who are accredited by NHBC or LABC or an equivalent body.
This is a pilot initiative whereby the Council is seeking to accelerate the development of small sites in private ownership, suitable for new housing development which will help to increase the supply of affordable rented homes. Under this initiative the Council would enter into a contract to forward purchase newly constructed homes for affordable rent off-plan, for a fixed price to be agreed with the house builder. The total contract value in a single year for this initiative, must be less than £4,733,252.
This initiative is aligned with the Council's vision and priorities adopted in 2018 and recognises the need to look towards both the public and private sector developers to achieve the Council's housing delivery targets.
