Description
English Heritage are seeking to appoint a contractor to carry-out internal fit out and decoration works in the Terrace Restaurant and Orangery at Osborne, a Grade 1 Listed Building on the Isle of Wight.
Osborne was a favoured residence of Queen Victoria. It is a large Italianate residence built in 1845-51 and is set in a landscape park. The Terrace Restaurant at Osborne is an à la carte waiter service restaurant located within the Terrace Range extending south-west of the main house Spur Wing. The restaurant is accommodated within two rooms, the former Orangery built in 1870 and Queen Victoria's former Prayer Room built in 1880, which are separated by two small interlinked lobbies
The Terrace Restaurant is currently the primary indoor space available at Osborne for wedding breakfasts, offering capacity for c80 for a sit down meal. Its current main use, however, is as a restaurant for the day visitor to Osborne with covers of 125 (55-60 inside the Terrace Restaurant, 40 outside & 25 in Orangery) and offering a menu that is competitively priced and makes good use of local island produce. A scheme of redecoration and reconfiguration is proposed to improve the marketability of this space for weddings.
Project Scope includes -
• Removal of the bar and rear counter in Terrace Restaurant
• New service stair and landing in Orangery to manage change in levels from kitchen
• New bar/servery in orangery to service both rooms
• New lighting to both rooms
• Complete redecoration of both rooms
• Floors to be revarnished
• Adjoining lobby and entrance doors redecorated
• In addition, a separate Client budget has been established for the supply of additional/replacement restaurant furniture and kitchen equipment to match the catering needs of larger numbers.
There are also some necessary conservation repair works in these rooms including; local repairs and replacement of stained glass leaded windows on west elevation of Queen Victoria's former Prayer Room (repairs are to be carried-out by a stained glass specialist; easing and adjusting of 5no. internal shutters and further investigation works to establish the condition of the ceiling and plaster cornices in the restaurant.
Due to the historic significance of Osborne House and the delicate nature of the conservation repair items, a contractor or specialist sub-contractors will be required to carry-out the conservation repair works.
Suppliers should return their tender as per the instructions in the invitation to tender documents.
