Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council are seeking to appoint an experienced Childcare Solicitor
This is an opportunity to work for a local authority with a large established legal team who are very forward thinking. Due to increase workloads an opportunity has arisen for locum solicitor's to come in and hit the ground running in this very busy but supportive team.
The ideal candidate will be a qualified solicitor with at least 3 years PQE (or equivalent) with at least 2 years' experience specialising in and handling Public law child care matters preferably from a local authority prospective. The successful candidate must be confident and experienced in order to be able to hit the ground running and have the ability to carry a varied case load covering all aspects of Public Law childcare matters. You must be a confident advocate as there will be an expectation for you to cover various types of hearings to include those of a contested nature. The candidate will need to be proactive, work well under pressure, self-reliant as well as work as part of a wider team. The successful candidate would gain great exposure to a varied caseload and would enjoy a high level of responsibility with a great deal of client contact.
We are looking for experienced candidates with a broad spectrum who have experience in advocacy. If candidates are less experienced then we would expect for them to be able to deal with court hearings. If they cannot go to court, we would expect for them to deal with case work at paralegal level.
Essential requirements:
Qualified Solicitor/ Barrister of at least 5 years
Experience in Public Law Childcare Law within a local authority
Advocacy experience including contested matters
General knowledge of local government law
Experience of providing advice to internal and external clients
Ability to undertake workload with minimal supervision
Candidates need to be available to start immediately (e.g. do not need to give more than 2 weeks' notice in current roles)
Hours: 37 hours

End date: 3 months from start date
