Description

The South Bank Show is a television arts magazine show, produced by ITV between 1978 and 2010, which brought both high art and popular culture to a mass audience. The South Bank Show Production Archive (hereinafter described as the `Archive'), was deposited by ITV with Leeds University Library Special Collections in early 2015. The Archive contains rushes, out-takes and other film/audio material.
The Archive is complex in composition, containing a large amount of material - around 9,100 items. It is clear that the production companies took advantage of a range of recording and broadcast technology available at various times to ensure the highest-available quality of audio-visual capture at that time, wherever possible to achieve broadcast quality and durability. Hence, there are a diverse range of formats. It comprises many types of different linear material, primarily in two formats - celluloid film, and Digibeta and its derivatives - 7475 items on tape and film, equating to 89%. The remaining 11% is made up of 848 discrete items, plus 67 boxes of unidentified (as yet) material. The broad Archive breakdown is 31% film, 68% video recording (on tape), with about 1% audio and unidentified material.

The purpose of this tender exercise is twofold. Firstly the University wishes to appoint a supplier(s) to deliver the services as per the tender specification for the South Bank Show Production Archive Project. It is likely that a single supplier will be awarded the South Bank Project contract, however the University reserves the right to award the project to more than one supplier.
Secondly the University wishes to establish a framework agreement with a maximum of 4 suppliers to provide the type of services described in the tender specification for various projects over a period of 4 years.
