Description
Applications are sought for Golowan 2022 and the following 2 years, from groups that are CIOs or CIC's partnered with a charitable organisation so as to move toward the community aspiration that Golowan is overseen by a charitable community organisation. In assessing bids, the ability to dependably deliver a Golowan 2022 festival and 2 further festivals will take precedence over meeting the desired charitable organisational structure. Dates for all 3 festivals are given in the draft Service Level Agreement included with this notice.
Aims:
To provide an inclusive community event which celebrates the distinctive identity of Penzance as part of the Celtic Fringe.
The delivery of free community events over the Mazey Day weekend which together represent the heart of the community's midsummer celebration.
To collaborate with the owners of local venues (both commercial and community) to put on a range of events covering diverse genres.
Such collaborative and partnership working is encouraged where there is confidence that the resulting events are financially viable.
Deliverables
Delivery of the core elements of the annual Penzance Golowan Festival includes the following:
- Mock Mayor Elections.
The annual and ancient ceremony to elect the Mock Mayor of the Quay. This takes place on the Thursday before Mazey Day and the Mock Mayor once elected, addresses the crowd at the opening ceremony of the first Mazey Day Procession

o Market and craft stalls
o Street and open air music and traditional dance.
o Street Entertainment
- Quay Fair.
