Description

The University of Southampton has joined a major consortium to study battery degradation, one of the Fast Start Projects within the Faraday Institution. The project involves several universities (Cambridge, Glasgow, UCL, Imperial, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Southampton and Warwick) and aims to achieve a comprehensive understanding of degradation processes in electric-vehicle batteries, and it will work in collaboration with the other three Faraday Fast Start projects to build the next generation of batteries for electric vehicle applications as part of the UK's industrial strategy.

The work at Southampton will take place in Chemistry (Electrochemistry section), at the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences.
A multichannel potentiostat/galvanostat will be acquired in order to perform a systematic electrochemical characterization of battery materials, as required for the project described above
