Swale & Ure Drainage Board
Contract for Seasonal Maintenance and Inspection of Watercourses - 2017 to 2019
Expressions of interest are invited from contractors experienced in the maintenance of minor Land Drainage channels to be considered for short-listing based on a pre-qualification exercise.
The Board's District comprises 203 sq km in the Vale of York, North Yorkshire, between the towns of Catterick and Wetherby north to south and Knaresborough and Thirsk west to east. It contains over 470 km of Board designated ordinary watercourse of which 392 km are routinely maintained with a bi-annual cycle of maintenance being the target. Some unprogrammed work is also undertaken.
The work consists principally of flailing vegetation, brashing bushes and saplings, removing and disposing of trees, dredging and de-weeding, re-shaping or piling of unstable banks. Work is concentrated mainly between August and March to comply with environmental regulation. Coordination of activities with the farming calendar is a major consideration in the successful execution of this work. Routine and ad hoc inspection of assets including a small pumping station is also part of the workload.
The contract duration will be 2 years extendable by the Board on satisfactory performance for up to 5 years in total and may be awarded to one or two contractors depending on a 'best value' assessment of the submissions returned.
The Board supports local enterprise and would expect the successful contractor(s) to employ a majority of local labour and maintain a local managerial presence/depot facility.
The minimum annual value of work which would be issued to a successful contractor on a shared basis would be approximately £100,000. The maximum value on an exclusive basis would be around £350,000 per annum.
Please register your interest by e-mail to info@sandudb.gov.uk by 8 July 2016 and a pre-qualification pack will be forwarded to you for return by 29 July 2016.
