Description

The University of Southampton is one of the UK's leading research institutions and is in the top 1 per cent of universities worldwide.

The TrustGov research project at the University of Southampton is looking for individuals or teams to make a documentary film as part of our Economic and Social Research Council-funded research project.
Some of the themes explored in this research project include:
1. How do citizens feel about their government and politicians? Do they trust them to be honest and look out for the public interest? If so, why? And if not, why not?
2. Those who do not trust politicians and the government, are they best described as being sceptical and careful about them, or as more fundamentally cynical and disaffected?
3. What are the differences between different groups of people in these terms? E.g. between men and women, younger and older people, more and less educated, those living in urban or rural areas?
4. Should people trust government and politicians? Are they trustworthy, is it healthy / sensible for citizens to put their trust in them? Do citizens want to trust them more?
5. How can we improve political trust? What do citizens want from their government and politicians, for their optimal level of trustworthiness?

The University requires a documentary film to be produced to fit TrustGov's research aims. Within the production we require the Supplier to appropriately source and interview participants in order to create an unbiased and encompassing documentary that explores the research topics in detail. The documentary film must be suitable for presentation to the wider public as well as students of politics.
