Description

The programme will offer a bespoke coaching and mentoring offer to up to 120 South West Midwifery staff and 20 newly appointed Obstetric Registrars and Consultants. Each participant of the course will have up to 7 hours of coaching and mentoring time which will be provided over the course of the programme and tailored to the needs of that individual. The programme will be preceded by a wider workforce questionnaire and then followed up by evaluation and outcome reporting. Each individual on the programme will have the opportunity to bespoke their coaching and mentoring package dependent of their needs. The rationale behind the programme includes these recognised issues in attracting Midwives into senior position of leadership across the SW:

In 2020, over 50% of Heads of Midwifery posts out for advert. Very few high-quality applications, a number of posts had to re advertised and some not filled substantively.
Feedback regionally and nationally shows a lack of desire to move into positions of leadership and recognises the impact of the lack of leadership on safe staffing and culture.
The need to support Obstetric registrars and consultants who have moved into roles during the COVID pandemic and had little access to any training or personal development.
Diminished access to training for midwifery staff within Trusts.
