Description

The London Borough of Tower Hamlets (LBTH) is seeking expressions of interest from interested organisations for the above services. Description: In 2013 the council undertook a literature review of reports covering LGBT life and issues faced by the LGBT community at a national and local level. This was supplemented by a review of the evidence available about the outcomes where LGBT residents face significant gaps in outcome including some areas where they are disproportionately and adversely affected. This in turn informed the Borough Equality Assessment capturing the priority areas for action to improve outcomes for groups who share sexual orientation as a protected characteristic. The research identified four priority areas: Homophobia - in schools and in the workplace Housing and social care needs of young and older LGBT communities Access to health services, particularly sexual and mental health A growing issue of domestic violence within same sex relationships This programme will review these key challenges and frame the development of community engagement activity as a way of hearing the voice and improving the representation of LGBT residents, particularly in relation to these issues. The programme will consist of a range of engagement activities as part of a Tower Hamlets LGBT Community Forum. At the centre of this programme is a focus on each of the four priorities identified above. The programme will include working with the council and engaging the wider LGBT community on each of these priorities and developing the user voice, representation and evidence base on each topic. The service is expected to achieve the following outcomes: Strengthen the voice, representation and participation of LGBT residents Support the achievement of key equality goals Increase the engagement of the LGBT community in Tower Hamlets services Improve services in relation to LGBT needs You will be expected to: Work with the Council and partners to improve LGBT access to services Improve the coordination and communication of work to support the LGBT community in Tower Hamlets Develop and run a Tower Hamlets LGBT Community Forum Develop a virtual community forum of LGBT residents Undertake consultation and engagement with LGBT residents on each of the 4 priority areas Undertake stakeholder and practitioner engagement Run 4 participatory forum meetings Identify and support LGBT residents to act as representatives on particular issues. Produce short topic based reports - one for each of the 4 priority areas Supplier Briefing Session The Council intends on holding a supplier briefing session on: Date: Thursday 27th August 2015, Time: 10:00am-11a..(view full details to see more)
