Description

On 1 April 2022, NHS Sussex took on delegated commissioning responsibility for NHS Dentistry from NHS England (NHSE). Whilst NHS Sussex commissioners continue to work collaboratively with our NHSE regional dental team contract and commissioning colleagues, we are keen to develop and enhance the relationships with dental professionals across Sussex.

On 12 June 2023, NHS Sussex will hold its first dental provider engagement event at the American Express (AMEX) community stadium in Brighton. This will offer dental professionals the opportunity to share the challenges they face in delivering dental services and how as commissioners we can identify opportunities to support the development of NHS dental services in Sussex.

One of the priorities in the Primary Care delivery plan for NHS Sussex is to enhance access to NHS Dental services.

Delegated commissioning offers us greater opportunities to engage with dental professions to design services and pathways of care that better meet local priorities. NHS Sussex is developing plans to enhance our relationship and dialogue with dental professionals.

As part of this plan, we will convene our first dental professional listening event on the 12 June 2023.

The event is aimed at the wider dental workforce (including dental contract providers, dentists, therapists, hygienists, and practice managers) and intended to:
• strengthen and enhance communication between NHS dental professionals and NHS Sussex dental commissioners
• provide NHS Sussex dental commissioners with an increased understanding of the current challenges facing NHS dental services and,
• work collaboratively with dental professionals to identify flexible commissioning opportunities to support the development of NHS dental services in Sussex
