Description

Call off Contract Under Prison Education Dynamic Purchasing System for Reading / Enrichment for Residents of HMP Hewell

HMP Hewell is looking to commission a suite of activities to promote reading to run across the
establishment. The two areas we would like to focus on are:

- Aligning reading with rap music, enabling learners to use rap as a form of self-expression.
We would like to link this to the reading agenda as a 'hook' of getting men engaged in
reading. The programme would cover lyric writing, rap and we would like a CD to be
produced at the completion of the sessions. Programme 1.

- Again, aligning reading with rap music, we would like to have delivered and impactful
rap/poetry/ spoken word performance intervention programme, building towards a
showcase. We would like the programme to cover core poetry/lyrical writing techniques by
analysing popular emcee's flows and piloting lyrical techniques each session, writing
original poetry and raps. These techniques will improve participants' confidence with
writing, literacy, spelling and English Literature and Language key skills, contributing to the
confidence to re-engage in wider education activities within the
establishment. Programme 2.

Both above are to include:
- Teaching reading, focusing on both men who have low ability levels and those who are
proficient readers.
- Building confidence in reading.
- Developing and enjoyment of reading.
