Description

MoJs Outcome Delivery Plan 2021/22 sets out the governments ambition to deliver 20,000 additional prison places by the mid-2020s.

This also has implications for the Probation Service, which needs the workforce in place to manage the resulting increased numbers of prison leavers through the probation system.

Having enough staff is vital to ensure that HM Prison and Probation Service is able to meet its obligations on protection of the public and reducing reoffending.

In addition, having enough magistrates is essential to achieving the governments commitments on delivering swift access to justice. On 24 January 2022, the MoJ launched a new magistrate recruitment campaign and announced its ambition to recruit 4,000 magistrates.
