Description

2. Project background
JNCC co-leads the Marine Biodiversity theme of the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP), a UK government-led programme under the Blue Planet Programme. More information on the OCPP can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/blue-planet-fund/ocean-country-partnership-programme-ocpp.
JNCC on behalf of the OCPP is working in collaboration with the Maldives Government providing technical assistance focused on MPAs and marine biodiversity. Recently, the Environmental Protection Agency of Maldives has asked OCPP for support around improving knowledge and management of birds in Maldives.

This contract is being delivered on behalf of the Maldives Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Project aims
This contract will provide Maldives local-knowledge to a seabird expert contracted to complete a comprehensive desk-based assessment of all protected bird species under the Maldives Environmental Protection & Preservation Act (4/93).

The Maldives based contractor for this work will not need to have expertise in birds of the Maldives. Instead, they will be responsible for the Maldives based work, helping to collate information from local stakeholders, and helping to undertake a desk-based review. The contract is not a full-time position, instead the time required should be based on the objectives set out below. The contractor should have good communication skills, be comfortable working alongside the international seabird expert, have basic GIS skills, and be competent in working in Dhivehi/ translating English to Dhivehi.

The Maldives based contractor will be responsible for collating information on birds across Maldives. This will be through undertaking a questionnaire and/or interviews with stakeholders and through liaison with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Throughout the contract, the contractor will need to liaise with JNCC (on behalf of the OCPP), the Maldives Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the contracted seabird expert. Regular meetings will be held to share updates on progress, and sufficient time should be factored into planning to ensure for review and sign off by both the OCPP and the MCCEE.

The tender documents will be shared with Maldives Environmental Protection Agency for their review prior to awarding the contract. If you do not agree to your tender application to be shared, please notify us in your submission.
