Description
Historic England is seeking to procure a consultant to provide Active Design review support to up to five identified Levelling Up funded projects. This support will provide a high-level critique of the individual projects against Sport England's Active Design Guidance (https://www.sportengland.org/guidance-and-support/facilities-and-planning/design-and-cost-guidance/active-design). This support will include reviewing the individual projects and making recommendations as to how the projects can further integrate the Active Design principles to help make healthier, happier and more active places.
Historic England will be the lead client for the commissioning of this project, in partnership with Sport England.
Sport England believes sport and physical activity has a big role to play in improving the physical and mental health of the nation, supporting the economy, reconnecting communities, and rebuilding a stronger society for all. It has produced the Active Design Guidance, which is focused on encouraging the built environment to be shaped in a way that encourages and promotes physical activity (active environments). The Active Design guidance supports Active Environments, one of the five big issues of Uniting the Movement, Sport England's ten year strategy to transform lives and communities through sport and physical activity and to create a nation of more equal, inclusive, and connected communities.
Active Environments is about creating and protecting the places and spaces that make it easier for people to be active. Sport England has the ambition to make the choice to be active easier and more appealing for everyone, whether that's how we choose to move around our local neighbourhood or a dedicated facility for a sport or activity.
Levelling Up Fund projects provide the opportunity to create spaces that encourage activity, through integration of the Active Design principles.
