Description

#BeeWell is a £2million programme led by the University of Manchester, the Anna Freud Centre and Greater Manchester Combined Authority, that combines academic expertise with youth-led change to make the wellbeing of young people everybody's business.

Designed by young people, #BeeWell surveys the wellbeing of pupils in secondary schools across Greater Manchester and uses the results in partnership with schools to deliver positive change in all our communities. The programme will run until at least 2024. In the first round of surveys, almost 40,000 young people shared their views with #BeeWell. Participating schools have now received access to the anonymised and aggregated survey responses through the dynamic #BeeWell online data dashboard. In late March, #BeeWell published this data on a neighbourhood level, to enable a community-wide response to young people's wellbeing. #BeeWell has some 90 coalition partners who have committed their support to #BeeWell and to acting in response to the findings.

The health and wellbeing needs of young people is a priority of the Greater Manchester Mayor in his second term, alongside a "Live Well: Beyond Social Prescribing" model for health and wellbeing across the life course. The GM Health and Social Care Partnership (GMHSCP) has also prioritised CYP social prescribing as part of its community and person-centred approaches workstream. The #BeeWell Champions pilot aims to create a pioneering community-wide response to the survey results. A collaboration between #BeeWell and the Greater Manchester Health and Social Care Partnership, #BeeWell Champions will be a see the rollout of a new social prescribing pilot for children and young people's mental health and wellbeing.
The pilot has been designed to allow young people and schools to deliver peer to peer support, access to community intervention and referrals to further support where necessary.

#BeeWell Champions will be delivered as a social prescribing pilot in 5 Greater Manchester neighbourhoods across at least 15 schools. The pilot has secured funding to roll out the programme and training for young people from Summer term 2022. Pilot neighbourhoods will be identified using findings from the #BeeWell survey results and based on school and community capacity for engagement.
