Description
Defra is seeking an experienced supplier familiar with ecosystem approaches to fisheries management, to
deliver evidence and best practice guidance based on international case studies. This research will support
implementation of Target 5 of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Kunming-Montreal Global
Biodiversity Framework (KMGBF), as well as considering outcomes relevant for other elements of the KMGBF
(e.g., Targets 9 and 10).
The project will be delivered in two phases with the aim of:
• Increasing our understanding of where and how ecosystem approaches are being utilised in fisheries
management globally (focussing on commercial wild capture fisheries).
• Exploring what has and has not worked, to produce best practice recommendations that could help
to guide effective implementation of Targets 5*, 9** and 10*** of the Kunming-Montreal Global
Biodiversity Framework (GBF).
This project was awarded by DEFRA.
