Description

The University of Plymouth is looking for the following interest from supplier on the following:
Procurement of towed underwater video camera set up for Applied Marine Ecosystems Research (aMER) unit - a key method of our research is surveying seabed ecosystems with an underwater camera to determine levels of biodiversity, habitat extent etc.; our current camera is not fit for purpose and has very dated technology (~ 15 years old) so we need a new camera and additional components to support our research and data collection. Camera must be high definition (not IP) with a resolution of at least 1080p/50fps and be suitable for identifying marine organisms to species level both via video and still frames (extracted from the video following data collection). The cable needs to be capable of operating at survey depths of ~90 metres with a maximum cable length of around ~250 metres. The video files must be stored in an easily accessible format e.g., MP4. Ideally, the camera would have integrated lasers for distance/size calibration, or at least compatible external lasers that can be controlled topside. Lights also need to be controlled topside.
