Description
Defra procuring on behalf of Natural England:
Installation of an agricultural water supply in Natural England (NE) Langley Wood, National Nature Reserve (NNR) by directional (horizontal) drilling:-
• 800m in length, drill pits to be spaced at 100m intervals.
• To include the supply and connection of 2 galvanised livestock drinking troughs with stop tap chambers. One is connected from a T junction the other at the end of the pipe.
• 50mm diameter MDPE water pipe
• To be connected to the existing 5000 litre water tank
• Preferred installation method is directional (horizontal) drilling to avoid damaging tree roots. Previous experience of direct drilling in woodland preferred.
• Consideration must be given to ground conditions and site sensitivity e.g. using the lightest available tracked drilling rig.
• Exact location must be agreed on site to avoid large trees, therefore requiring frequent changes in direction.
• Pipe must be laid at a minimum depth of 2.5m or lower in order to minimise damage to tree roots.
