Description

Defra procuring on behalf of Natural England:
Natural England only provides bespoke landscape advice for schemes affecting a National Park, AONB or Heritage Coast which we judge to be of such major significance - in terms of their potential adverse impact on their statutory purposes of designation- that it warrants our intervention. We are also guided by national policy set out in the National Planning Policy Framework which affords the highest level of policy protection to the 'landscape and scenic beauty' of National Parks and AONBs.
The training is aimed at Natural England's advisers and lead advisers who handle planning consultations. They are based in fourteen Area Teams covering England.
Central 'Hubs' risk-assess planning consultations from LPAs using mapped 'Impact Risk Zones' to check whether any of Natural England's interests may be affected. If necessary, the consultation is passed to the relevant Area Team for further appraisal and, if deemed necessary, a bespoke response from the planning adviser.
It is important to note that our advisers and lead advisers are not landscape architects, and that the training is not intended to help them to undertake such a role. Instead, it will help them to achieve a level of proficiency needed to review the landscape and visual components of a planning consultation in order to provide appropriate advice.
