Description

Upgrade of existing tennis court to Advantage RedCourt artificial clay.

Block dimensions: Approx. 34.00m x 31.00m

Works to be undertaken
Pressure clean and small surface repairs
Pressure clean the existing asphalt base to ensure it is as free draining as possible. Report any areas of concern to club if surface is slow to drain. Fill any small holes (but at least 25mm diameter) with cold lay material.

Tennis posts and centre anchors
Break out existing and install new centre anchors, set to suit new playing surface level.

Aluminium angle to perimeter of court block
Affix aluminium angle, approx. 62.5mm x 37.5mm x 5mm, to the existing edgings to provide an upstand to contain loose infill material.

New playing surface - in red
Supply and lay EDEL Advantage RedCourt artificial clay playing surface, including one set of play lines for tennis per court. This surface provides a highly practical alternative to traditional clay courts, but with a similar appearance and play characteristics, available for near year-round play, without the need for sprinklers or the major cost of reconstruction each Spring. It is manufactured by EDEL Grass B.V. and uses a ceramic treated infill that totally fills the stability mat. The stability mat has a polyethylene yarn for low sliding resistance, whilst the play lines are made using a special white yarn that gives higher durability and improved visibility. Advantage RedCourt® offers a slow surface pace (ITF Category 1) with uniform low bounce. It allows some top spin and slice and has a positive "push off" with controlled slide and some resilience.

Fencing works
Take down chainlink and cut out line wires, remove all from site. Break out and remove existing intermediate posts (16no.) and 2-way straining post. Supply and install 17no. new 88.9mm diameter intermediate posts. Supply and install new 3.60m high chainlink (plastic coated, galvanised core), 2.50/3.55mm x 50mm, fitted to new line wires. Existing corner posts and gate to remain as existing, but painted with one coat of green paint RAL 6005.
Screen netting - 4no. each 12m long x 2m high

Supply and fit new dark green screen netting (160g/m2) with eyelets and galvanised spring clips.

Electrical groundworks for future floodlighting upgrade - in conjunction with surface upgrade works
Excavate trench to floodlight column in the middle of the court block and install new 63mm diameter electrical duct. Duct to be installed with 450mm cover below playing surface level. Remove excavated spoil off site. Trench to have sand cover (plus warning tape) to duct and then be backfilled with Type 1 aggregate to avoid issues with settlement. Cap with porous asphalt.
