Description
Wolverhampton is one of 6 HeadStart partnerships in the country to have been successfully awarded fundingfrom the Big Lottery to work with young people aged 10 - 16 and their parent/carers to improve emotionaland mental health, mental wellbeing and resilience. HeadStart Wolverhampton is seeking the services oforganisations with the ambition, track record, skills and experience to work in Partnership with us to deliver ourPhase 3 programme. The HeadStart programme aims to realise the following outcomes:
1. Socially significant improvement in the mental wellbeing of at risk young people
2. Reduction in the onset of diagnosable mental health disorders
3. Improved engagement in school and improved academic attainment
4. Reduced engagement in 'risky' behaviour
5. Improved employability
The services will be delivered through nine lots across 4 areas:

HeadStart News Hounds (Lot 9), 1 December 2017 - 4 January 2019 - (no option to extend, 13 months only).
'Place to Go' interventions/activities, consisting of drop-in facilities for young people to access trusted adults,including youth workers, therapeutic input, on a voluntary basis at places where they currently spend time.
Engagement in the drop-in sessions will be stimulated by a range of inclusive and creative interventions /activities to inspire the young people to learn new skills and extend their social networks. for example, transition programmes for vulnerable young people in year six moving up to secondary school will be included.
Interventions/activities will be monitored by the HeadStart Community Based staff to ensure that there is a joined-up approach with other activities in the community and especially targeted young people.
The menu of interventions/activities for parent/carers will facilitate parent/carers to:
• Encourage good behaviour
• Support learning at home
• Encourage stronger bonds with their children, the school, other parent/carers and the local community
The HeadStart Newshounds will be an element of the overarching HeadStart communications strategy and will provide multimedia materials to support both the City-wide and Universal components of the programme.
The HeadStart communications strategy is led by the council's communications team and supported by a dedicated HeadStart digital communications lead, a HeadStart media and communications apprentice and a HeadStart graphic designer.
The contracted provider for the HeadStart Newshounds will work within this strategic and team structure with a particular focus on capturing the activities of the 8 other Lots in this tender opportunity. The contracted provider will stimulate, and proactively capture this information and present it by way of multimedia for use by HeadStart through its media portals. The materials may also be used by the council, Big Lottery and other approved agencies.
