Description
A Market Engagement event will be held on 24th September 2024 between 10:30 and 15:00 to allow the Council to engage with the market on how we intended to approach the commissioning of new build care homes and extra care housing, and this will be your opportunity to talk to us about our new development framework approach. Cornwall Council are inviting organisations that might be interested in building/developing and/or delivering care into these services, either individually or in partnership with others, to attend. The event will be an opportunity to inform and shape future options. Cornwall Council are keen to hear feedback from a range of providers as part of the wider consultation for this procurement opportunity.

In 2023, the Council published its Supported and Specialist Housing Strategy, Cornwall Supported & Specialist Housing Strategy 2023-2050 which sets out the future demand for services. This future procurement is included in the scope of the strategy and its implementation plan.
The demand for both care homes and extra care can be seen in our Market Position Statements Our Adult Social Care Strategies - Cornwall Council In summary the future demand is as follows:
Residential care - an additional 825 beds by 2050
Nursing care - an additional 2,901 beds by 2050
Extra care - an additional 3,882 units by 2050 (50% for social/affordable rent and 50% for sale/shared ownership)
In May 2024 the Council's Cabinet approved a new approach to how we commission extra care housing and care home developments and associated services through a single end to end process. This approach will enable the Council to enter into long-term contracts for the delivery of care.
