Description

The Authority is seeking applications from suitable organisations that are interested in tendering for River Tyne North Bank Study. This project is part funded by the North of Tyne Combined Authority.

The North Bank of the Tyne is a large and strategically important employment corridor, providing the primary location for a nationally significant cluster of businesses in the offshore and sub-sea sector. This study will help secure the economic future of the river, including as businesses transition towards a low-carbon future, whilst also considering the wider cultural, leisure and residential offer that the river brings to the region.

This study will lead to the production of a detailed set of evidence and a common narrative for the North Bank of the River Tyne. This will enable the North Tyneside and Newcastle Councils, together with the North of Tyne Combined Authority and wider partners, to:

• maximise the opportunities for Government investment along the Tyne
• highlight future priority infrastructure requirements
• understand how best to address challenges faced in the use of the river for transport purposes
• secure further inward investment
• identify future skills and training needs for the sector
• better articulate the cultural, leisure and residential offer along the river
• highlight low-carbon transport access issues and their impact on economic and wider objectives
• understand the spatial implications of different uses of riverside frontage
