Description

The purpose of this commission is to identify a viable and deliverable masterplan for the 'Masterplan Area' together with a viability assessment and delivery Plan. This will involve the satisfactory completion of the scope of work. The Client Team comprises City of Wolverhampton Council, Canal & River Trust and the Homes and Community Agency. The Client Team have the following objectives for this project: 1. secure the physical regeneration of CSQ South, maximizing opportunities to create a high-quality mix of housing, leisure and other uses, along the canal corridor including consideration of community facilities; 2. create a strong sense of place and focus, bringing life and vitality to CSQ South and its waterfront; 3. support the parties' aspiration for CSQ South to become a unique selling point and attractive destination for Wolverhampton. 4. conserve, enhance and promote the unique heritage environment of the canal subject to market considerations and viability 5. promote character and listed buildings within CSQ South and the surrounding area. This will require an assessment to be undertaken to determine whether the heritage assets are capable of being converted and what would their overall contribution be to the overall scheme. 6. create a strong aesthetic and development frontage to the canal corridor, maximizing views of and access to the waterway; 7. capitalise on the canal as a linear recreational resource by identifying a range of leisure, recreational and environmental enhancements, with a clear focus on improving permeability and visibility of the waterside and consider opportunities for new footbridges to ensure that the added value of the water space is fully explored to achieve sustainable regeneration of the area; 8. seek appropriate improvements for boaters of both the local and wider canal network; 9. explore opportunities to use the canal water for heating and cooling initiatives and for surface water discharge 10. ensure stakeholder engagement in the preparation of the Masterplan.
