Description

Hackney Council is inviting bids from qualified licensed providers to deliver a mattress collection and recycling service which is reliable, efficient, auditable, cost effective and in compliance with current waste legislation and health and safety standards.

The transfer station receives thousands of tonnes of municipal waste per year from the borough. Operatives at the depot separate around a third of the total waste received for recycling. All recycled materials include: garden waste, wood, metal, cardboard, fridges, TVs, mattresses, tyres, used oil, paint, mixed recycling packaging and small waste electrical and electronic equipment. Currently mattress waste accounts for the largest material recycled by weight. Last year over 8,000 items and 300 tonnes were diverted from disposal.

The contract shall commence on 1 April 2016 for a duration of one year, with the possibility of a one year extension, until 31 March 2018.
