Description

THE ELING EXPERIENCE - MILL RESTORATION
as part of the Eling Experience.
The tender is to carry out restoration and alteration works to the existing Tide Mill building as part of the Eling Experience which also includes (but not as part of this tender) the adjacent Learning Centre and walks to Goatee Beach and around Bartley Water.New Forest District Council (NFDC) own Eling Tide Mill which is leased to T&ETC and the Mill will be refurbished to provide visitors with a unique experience of a working mill. The Mill and causeway is a Grade II* Listed structure and therefore of national importance; furthermore it is extremely rare across Europe to find a tide mill still regularly producing flour for sale. The Mill building will include a shop, restored mill machinery and new interpretative displays (including a main introductory interactive) to enable more people to access, enjoy and appreciate the experience of a working mill and direct interaction with the milling process and related learning.
The tender is to carry out the internal & external restoration works for the Eling Tide Mill and includes provision of (design, manufacture and installation as relevant):
• Internal alterations to the layout
• New glazed barriers & screens
• Various carpentry works
• Decorations
• Flooring
• Undercroft masonry, metalwork & joinery repairs.
• Localised external pointing & brickwork, roofing & window repairs.
• M&E and Fire Safety systems
• Other works shown & described in the tender drawings & specification
All works are to be carried out in accordance with the Listed Building Consent and Conditions, including the preparation of design, fabrication and installation information for submission and approval by the Conservation Officer.
