The Early Years Innovation Programme seeks to promote innovation by providing opportunities for pre-reception early years settings to explore innovative practice, help grow the evidence base and facilitate cross-sector sharing. It is part of the Stronger Practice element of the Department's early years recovery package, which also comprises a new, universal online child development training offer and pedagogical and whole setting leadership support (experts and mentors).
The programme is expected to consist of a new network of Early Years Practice and Innovation Centres. These will be leading early years settings with sound expertise and knowledge of the latest evidence base on innovative practice and what works to support child outcomes. Centres will be supported by a delivery partner who will also develop an evidence-based Toolkit to inform the work of the Centres, focused on key recovery themes.
Centres will be responsible for providing proactive and reactive advice to early years settings in their region, and triaging to funded support, including via referrals from experts and mentors. They will also create local networks to share effective practice.
