Description

With co-funding from the European Regional Development Fund and BEIS, the University of Sheffield is establishing a national Translational Energy Research Centre (TERC) as an integrated multi-technology, pilot-scale R&D platform for low-carbon technologies including hydrogen, bioenergy (BE), and Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS). Site equipment includes a Molten Carbonate Fuel Cell (MCFC) which forms part of a Bioenergy with Carbon Capture and Storage/Utilisation (BECCS) system. The MCFC is a high temperature process capturing CO2 from combustion flues gas with simultaneous power generation. The MCFC utilises 2 sources of flue gas (individually/mixed) which are fed to the cathode side of the MCFC, and which require cleaning and conditioning:
1. Real combustion flue gas, mainly from wood grate boiler, which requires: (1) filtering, and (2) wet/dry scrubbing upstream of the MCFC.
2. Synthetic flue gas blended from compressed air, CO2 and N2 to simulate / modulate real combustion/process flue gas; the CO2 also require dry/wet scrubbing.

CO2 (synthetic) is also used on the anode side of the MCFC and requires scrubbing and conditioning before it is fed to the MCFC. The scrubbed CO2 can also be for other plants on site: primarily Fischer Tropsch (FT) Plant.

This tender covers the scrubbing and conditioning of biomass boiler flue gas (as well as synthetic/semi-synthetic flue gas) to meet stringent purity requirements of the MCFC. It also covers fuel feed to the Anode side of the MCFC. S-containing impurities as well as compounds containing halogens (e.g., HCl), As, Se and P must be scrubbed to low ppb levels to prevent poisoning of the plant catalyst.

This is an EU/FTS open exercise. The ITT can be downloaded by registering and expressing your interest on the University`s e-tendering system https://in-tendhost.co.uk/sheffield

If you have any questions or comments in relation to this tender they must be submitted via the In-tend system, this can be accessed at https://in-tendhost.co.uk/sheffield

Completed tenders must be returned through the same e-tendering system.
