Description

The BBC welcomes your response to this RFI to help develop its understanding of the market's current and future capabilities with regard to Production Rights Management. This concerns the management of contributor rights and copyright for productions commissioned, acquired, repeated and sold by the BBC and BBC Studios, as well as productions created by BBC Studios for non-BBC commissioners and BBC IP programmes not distributed by BBC Studios Distribution.

At present the BBC and BBC Studios use a number of systems and manual processes to manage rights for programmes on public service radio and television channels, non-linear content for online publication and investment and sales by BBC Studios. These systems are used to store rights held against productions using a hierarchy of content (versioning) and are used to determine availability of content for use and contributor payments to be made at time of use and exploitation.

The BBC is considering opportunities for changes to rights management including how technology or a more modular approach could enable future rights models, possibilities to streamline rights management systems and opportunities to remove manual processes.
