Description

The University of Sheffield is out to tender on behalf of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering for an X-ray diffractometer and high temperature stage.

The closing date for return of tenders is Monday 11th May 2015 at 12 noon (UK time).

We require a high performance diffractometer capable of rapid data collection from the wide diversity of materials studied by TUoS researchers - both small bulk pieces (pellets, off-cuts etc) and powdered specimens of ceramics, cements and refractories, metals and glasses.

Though not the only focus, a particular focus of this machine will be on running radioactive specimens, and so the tender must include specimen holders that (i) are easy to fully clean, and (ii) can be sealed within e.g. a glove box. Additionally we require the capability to undertake (i) high temperature studies up to ca. 1200 oC for in-situ diffraction studies of phase transformations, structure determination, and in situ reactions; (ii) grazing angle diffraction studies of solid samples to achieve surface sensitivity, by control of incident angle.

The full technical specification can be found in the tender documentation which will be sent to you once you have expressed your interest.

This is an open tender exercise. The ITT can be downloaded by registering and expressing your interest on the University`s e-tendering system https://www.in-tendhost.co.uk/Sheffield
